My wife and I were digging through the decorations the other day as we were cleaning out the attic before cold weather sets in for good. If you havn’t ever considered documenting your years of marriage with Christmas ornaments your probably not alone. I never would have considered it except we received a ” Your First Christmas Together Ornament” as part of one of our wedding gifts. Now 22 years later we have a box full of vintage Precious Moments Christmas ornamentseach celebrating another year together and ready to display for the world to see on our Christmas tree. My wife spent almost the entire afternoon unwrapping each one carefully and trying to remember what we did that year for together for Christmas. Not only was it interesting to look back at the past 22 years and how we spent our Christmas together but we also go to enjoy the memories of our children and how our family has grown over the year. I know you might not think of a simple Christmas ornament as an anniversary gift but you might be suprised at the lifetime of enjoyment it can bring.

Have you ever taken any formal dance lessons or classes. If you like me it’s something you always thought about doing but never quite got around to doing it. I was contimplating unique ideas for anniversary gifts and though hmm dance lessons. My wife would go nuts if she came how opened an anniversary card and in it were gift certificates to take dance lessons at a local studio. They type of lessons you decide to take are completely up to you. Perhaps your spouse has always wanted to learn to do a proper waltz or maybe the tango. If you didnt want to spring for the time and commitment of lessons you could get a nice video series on how to learn foxtrot basic steps and set aside 1 night a week to learn together for your anniversary. Anniversary gifts as i’ve found over the years don’t need to be overly expensive. Often times the anniversary gift with the most impact is one that comes from that heart that has required lots of thinking and much less dependance on the wallet. Maybe you wouldn’t need to learn perhaps just taking your wife out for a night on the town dancing and dining makes more since as an anniversary gift in your situation. Either way incoroprating dancing into your anniversary gift ideas is definately something you should consider.

5th Anniversary gifts are something none of us want to get wrong. There is nothing worse than handing over a what you think is the best anniversary gift in the world to your wife or husband and watch their face as disappointment quickly takes over their expression. Your 5th Wedding Anniversary is traditionally a wood item. I was contimplating jewelry boxes the other day when looking for unique anniversary gift ideas. Depending on your wife this could be a great anniversary gift idea or a horrible one it just depends on the person. My wife is one that loves her jewelry and I think a high quality jewelry box made from solid walnut, oak, cherry or other nice decorative hardwood makes perfect since. The problem you have when considering a jewelry box as an anniversary gift is what type to get. Do you buy on that is meant to sit on a chest of drawer or do your go for one that has legs and can stand on its own as a piece of furniture. I would say it all depends upon how much jewelry your wife has and her personal taste in furniture. Now I’m not saying that you should give an empty jewelry box as an anniversary gift. Much like giving a wallet or purse you should always include something inside to get the ball running. This is an excellent anniversary gift especially if you can’t afford expensive jewelry at the time. You could get a nice jewelry box , and by nice I dont mean one from Wal-mart, but make sure to add a pair of earrings, bracelet or other small anniversary gift with it as well. This would make a great idea for your 5th wedding anniversary since traditionally that is something made of wood.

Yes as promised here is the list of the modern wedding anniversary gift categories I discusses in my previous post about the traditional wedding anniversary gift ideas. If your like me and many others you really never have a clue what exactly your supposed to be buying your wife or husband for your wedding anniversary. Yea we’d all like to think we do but do you really know what the modern anniversary gifts are supposed to be? Here is a list of what is currently considered to be the right gift to buy for your wife or buy for your husband for each year of your marriage.

1st Clocks - Are you kidding me I need to buy my wife a clock for our first wedding anniversary!!
2nd China
3rd Crystal & Glass
4th (silk)Electrical Appliances - I somehow doubt my wife would want me to buy here a dishwasher as an anniversary gift.
5th Silverware
6th Wood
7th (copper)Desk Sets
8th Linens & Lace - Ok maybe its time to spice it up a bit with some nice lingerie
9th (china) Leather
10th (aluminum) Diamond Jewelry - Diamond jewelry already
11th Fashion Jewelry, Accessories - Ah a nice Mary Frances Purse could just do the trick
12th Pearls, Colored Gems
13th Textiles & Furs
14th Gold Jewelry - Is it just me or does it seem like every wedding anniversary is calling for buying my wife jewelry.
15th Watches
20th Platinum - Can you really buy platinum wedding anniversary gifts?
25th Sterling Silver Jubilee
30th Diamond
35th Jade
40th Ruby
45th Sapphire
50th Gold
55th Emerald
60th Diamond - I’ll be dead or broke by the time we make it to 60 years of marriage that must be why they moved diamond jewelry up to the 10th anniversary also.

If you are like many husbands and wives out there you have no clue what the traditonal anniversary gifts are supposed to be for each of your wedding anniversaries. Depending on how long you have been married there is a specific type of gif you are supposed to buy your wife or husband. Below is a list of what are considered to be the traditional anniversary gifts. For many this traditional anniversary gift list is outdated and has been replaced with a more modern version which I will discuss in my next post.

1st Paper - No I dont think a pinata would make a good first anniversary gift
2nd Cotton - Qtips dont cut the mustard here
3rd Leather - Leather whips for anniversaries might sound fun but could be dangerous
4th Linen - A napkin doesn’t count
5th Wood - Hmm a good solid spanking with a wooden paddle might be just right for some marriages
6th Iron - Chain and Ball anyone?
7th Wool - A dont think a live sheep would be an appropriate choice here
8th Bronze - A bronze statue of the inlaws wouldn’t be suggested
9th Pottery - Better stick with a nice antique weller vase for your 9th wedding anniversary
10th Tin - I dont have a clue what type of tin item you could buy for your 10th anniversary

For those of you that make it past your 10th wedding anniversary I’ll let you come up with some good gift ideas on your own.
11th Steel
12th Silk
13th Lace
14th Ivory
15th Crystal

Making it past your 15 wedding anniversary is a great accomplishment and for each additonal year you should make sure and do something extra special. Of course the longer your married the more elaborate and expensive the anniversary gifts should be.
20th China - I had no clue I was supposed to buy my wife china for out 20th wedding anniversary. I really botched that one
25th Silver
30th Pearl
35th Coral
40th Ruby
45th Sapphire
50th Gold
55th Emerald
60th Diamond - Your kidding people really stay married this long?
